Definition of the "Novella Genre": A novella ebook fits in between a short story and a full-length novel.  Unlike a short story, a novella has room for plot development, character growth and change, and more conflicts. However, unlike a novel, the novella typically does not have multiple perspectives, is not split into chapters, and does not have the luxury of in-depth subplots.  Novella ebooks are meant to be consumed in one sitting and take a great deal of dexterity and skill in the author drafting them.

Examples of bestselling and famous novellas are John Steinbeck (The Pearl), Stephen King (Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption), Truman Capote (Breakfast at Tiffany's) and Animal Farm (George Orwell).

The Plot

Anurag is a disturbed young man drudging along in an unhappy marriage for the last five years. To make matters worse, he has developed insomnia. As he sits awake every night, he reminisces and recounts memories, in a diary, that are too dark to share with anyone in person.

The diary gives him a release but he remains oblivious to the potential consequences of the diary becoming public, considering the inconceivable confessions he has made to it.

A string of women seemed to have been able to find love and comfort, at various times, in this abominable man. But does Anurag himself believe that there is still some good in him?

Can a man this far resigned to life have any hope of redemption? Can he find any reason to finally commit to making a change?

One Night Bride

by Sarah J. Brooks

She was the reason for the wildest night of my life.
There’s only one problem, I forgot everything… except marrying her.

I’m used to my billions getting me into sh*t situations.
I should have known a night in Vegas would be no different.
But it was, thanks to one tall, gorgeous woman.
Arcadia.
Her plump, full lips as they grazed my skin,
Warm, soulful eyes watching me as I made her mine.
F*cking each other all night.
When I awoke, she was gone.
With a fresh tattoo and ring on my finger, I started my search.
I could have never guessed what I’d find,
Now her life’s in my hands. I have to protect her.
If this mafia bastard is used to getting what he wants,
He’s about to be disappointed.
Cause I protect what’s mine. Period.

I’ll keep her safe. He better be ready, I’m done playing games.

"One Night Bride" is a full length standalone romance with no cheating and no cliffhangers, but with plenty of a steam and a HEA. I've also included a preview of my billionaire romance "The Billionaire's Fake Marriage"! - Sarah J. Brooks (USA Today Bestselling Author)

Dawn: A Re-Imagining of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein (The Frankenstein Saga Book 3)

by Merrie Destefano

Frankenstein meets Dracula in this Gothic, 3-book retelling of Mary Shelley’s classic tale.

A holiday in Switzerland is supposed to lift Mary Wollstonecraft Godwin’s spirits. She wants to forget the past and have fun. In fact, everyone in her party is running away from one indiscretion or another—from her fiancé Percy Shelley to Lord Byron to Mary’s stepsister, Claire. But from the moment Mary arrives at Byron’s villa, she knows something is wrong. He rushes her indoors and forbids all of them to go out at night, claiming that the horrible weather has driven wild animals down from the mountains.

The only person who doesn’t seem to be running away from anything is a handsome, young Italian doctor, John Polidori. Instead, he is fervently pursuing local folk legends and a new scientific theory that claims people can be raised from the dead.

But it’s not until they all challenge one other to write ghost stories that the real danger begins. In a nightmare, Mary envisions a patchwork man animated by Galvanism and she begins writing Frankenstein. Likewise, fueled by local legends, John writes The Vampyre—one of the first vampire stories ever written.

What neither one of them knows is that they are conjuring a dark evil. Before long, all of their lives will be in danger—for neither of these characters are imaginary. Far from it.

For fans of the Netflix program, THE FRANKENSTEIN CHRONICLES, AND I DARKEN by Kiersten White, SOMETHING STRANGE AND DEADLY by Susan Dennard, and BRAM STOKER'S DRACULA.
