A History of the Great War

by John Buchan

With thrillers such as 'The 39 Steps' and 'Greenmantle' John Buchan was the greatest adventure writer of the First World War.

But he was also one of the most accomplished historians of the conflict.

Vivid and authoritative, John Buchan's masterly history of the First World War was written while the war was still in progress.

While admirably cool in tone, it has the immediacy of fine journalism. Its briskly moving narrative charts the progress of the war in all the main theaters of action, including what must surely be the very first history of war in the air.

The military historian Victor Neuburg has abridged the work into a single volume, selecting key passages of the original to build up a panoramic view of the war as it unfolded, concentrating on the Western Front.

While John Buchan's novels of the First World War, such as ‘Greenmantle’, have continued to be read, his history of the war has been unfairly neglected. It ranks among his finest achievements, and remains one of the clearest and best accounts we have of the world-shaking conflict of 1914-18.

John Buchan was a Scottish novelist, historian and Unionist politician who also served as Governor General of Canada. He is most famous for his classic thriller, 'The 39 Steps'.

I have a new shepherd now.

I didn’t choose to fall for Aldous Occestem. The most hated man in Coventry, he antagonizes the town’s beloved megachurch at every opportunity; he operates a notorious, satanic-themed BDSM club; and now he’s a suspect in the abduction of my friend, as well as several other missing women. He should repulse me, but I can’t resist the way he makes me feel.

He leads me into temptation.

Handsome, dominant and sadistic, he ignites my intense hunger for submission. He doesn’t know I’m a private detective, investigating the case on my own. Our relationship started as a cover, but now I’m addicted to his world of carnal sin. Even if he’s not the kidnapper, his one-man war with the powerful Pastor Jones is a powder keg ready to explode, and I’ll be the one caught in the crossfire.

I fear no evil, for he is with me.

I should get out while I still can, but the deeper I dig into his life, the more I need him in mine. He knows how to soothe the pain from my past. He longs to own me, and I yearn to be his.

Something sinister is happening in Coventry. Innocent or guilty, Aldous is at its center. I won’t stop until I know the truth, even if it makes me the target of an unspeakable evil...

The Girl Who Lived: A Thrilling Suspense Novel

by Christopher Greyson

Ten years ago, four people were brutally murdered. One girl lived.

No one believes her story.
The police think she’s crazy.
Her therapist thinks she’s suicidal.
Everyone else thinks she’s a dangerous drunk.
They’re all right—but did she see the killer?

As the anniversary of the murders approaches, Faith Winters is released from the psychiatric hospital and yanked back to the last spot on earth she wants to be—her hometown where the slayings took place. Wracked by the lingering echoes of survivor’s guilt, Faith spirals into a black hole of alcoholism and wanton self-destruction. Finding no solace at the bottom of a bottle, Faith decides to track down her sister’s killer—and then discovers that she’s the one being hunted.

How can one woman uncover the truth when everyone’s a suspect—including herself?

From the mind of Wall Street Journal bestselling author Christopher Greyson comes a story with twists and turns that take the reader to the edge of madness. Winged Victory

by V M Yeates

‘The greatest novel of war in the air.’ - The Daily Mail

France, 1914.

The war on the land is taking to the skies.

Pilot Tom Cundall is ready to take on the enemy in his trusty Camel fighter plane.

But as he sees more and more planes shot down in flames, he begins to question the war, and what, or who, he is fighting for.

There is no bitter snarl nor self-pity in this classic novel about the air war of 1914-1918, based very largely on the author’s experiences.

Combat, loneliness, fatigue, fear, comradeship, women, excitement — they all are part of a brilliantly told story of war and courage by one of the most valiant pilots of the then Royal Flying Corps.

‘Beautifully written with a poet’s eye as well as a pilot’s eye.’ - Evening Echo.

‘The only book about flying that isn’t flannel.’ - Anonymous Fighter Pilot, 1941

‘Not only one of the best war books … but as a transcription of reality, faithful and sustained in its author’s purpose of re-creating the past life he knew, it is unique.’ -Henry Williamson, author of Tarka the Otter.

Victor Maslin Yeates (30 September 1897 — 15 December 1934), often abbreviated to V. M. Yeates, was a British fighter pilot in World War I, who wrote what is widely regarded as one of the most realistic and moving accounts of aerial combat and the futility of war.

Strange Weather: Four Short Novels

by Joe Hill

A collection of four chilling novels, ingeniously wrought gems of terror from the brilliantly imaginative, #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Fireman, Joe Hill.

"One of America’s finest horror writers" (Time magazine), Joe Hill has been hailed among legendary talents such as Peter Straub, Neil Gaiman, and Jonathan Lethem. In Strange Weather, this "compelling chronicler of human nature’s continual war between good and evil," (Providence Journal-Bulletin) who "pushes genre conventions to new extremes" (New York Times Book Review) deftly expose the darkness that lies just beneath the surface of everyday life.

"Snapshot" is the disturbing story of a Silicon Valley adolescent who finds himself threatened by "The Phoenician," a tattooed thug who possesses a Polaroid Instant Camera that erases memories, snap by snap.

A young man takes to the skies to experience his first parachute jump. . . and winds up a castaway on an impossibly solid cloud, a Prospero’s island of roiling vapor that seems animated by a mind of its own in "Aloft."

On a seemingly ordinary day in Boulder, Colorado, the clouds open up in a downpour of nails—splinters of bright crystal that shred the skin of anyone not safely under cover. "Rain" explores this escalating apocalyptic event, as the deluge of nails spreads out across the country and around the world.

In "Loaded," a mall security guard in a coastal Florida town courageously stops a mass shooting and becomes a hero to the modern gun rights movement. But under the glare of the spotlights, his story begins to unravel, taking his sanity with it. When an out-of-control summer blaze approaches the town, he will reach for the gun again and embark on one last day of reckoning.

Masterfully exploring classic literary themes through the prism of the supernatural, Strange Weather is a stellar collection from an artist who is "quite simply the best horror writer of our generation" (Michael Kortya).

Underneath It All (The Walsh Series Book 1)

by Kate Canterbary

One hot architect. One naughty schoolteacher. One crazy night that changes everything.

If I had known I'd have a hot architect balls deep inside of me before the end of the weekend, I'd have made time for a pedicure. Also, a little chat about not losing my shit at all the wrong moments.
Hindsight was a bitch, and karma…well, I didn't know her story yet.

Meet Lauren Halsted.
It's all the little things—the action plans, the long-kept promises—that started falling apart when my life slipped into controlled chaos.

After I fell ass-over-elbow into Matthew Walsh's arms.

I couldn't decide whether I wanted to run screaming or rip his pants off, and most days I wanted a little of both. If I was being honest with myself, it was rip his pants off, ride him like a workhorse, and then run screaming.

Meet Matthew Walsh.
A rebellious streak ran through Lauren Halsted. It was fierce and unrelentingly beautiful, and woven through too many good girl layers to count, and she wasn't letting anyone tell her what to do.

Unless, of course, she was naked.

She wasn't looking for me and I sure as shit wasn't looking for her, but we found each other anyway and now we were locked in a battle of wills, waiting for the other to blink.

Sometimes the universe conspires to bring people together. Other times, it throws them down a flight of stairs and leaves them in a bruised and bloodied heap.
