How to Start a 501(C)(3) Nonprofit

by Small Footprint Press

Stop looking around for someone to save your community. You are the hero they need.

Is there a cause that’s close to your heart that you want to contribute more to?

Do you want to serve your local community in a bigger way?

Do you want to do more than volunteering or donating?

If so, starting your own nonprofit may be a good idea.

A nonprofit organization is one that works for a social cause or serves the public good.

Whether you want to improve literacy, stop animal cruelty, or feed the hungry, a nonprofit is an effective channel to make a significant impact.

While volunteering or donating are extremely helpful, they are often limited in what you can do.

As a volunteer, you only get to join whatever activity a group organizes.

As a donor, you can earmark what you want your funds to be used for, but you don’t have a say in what programs they will implement.

With a nonprofit, you’ll be able to have more control over what to do, who to do them for, and how much to spend on it.

If you have plenty of ideas for how you can help your cause but have zero idea about starting a nonprofit, then look no further.

In this guide, you’ll find all you need to establish and operate a nonprofit, while avoiding the common pitfalls that new startups encounter.

In How to Start a 501(C)(3) Nonprofit, here is just a fraction of what you will discover:

  • The 1 crucial question you should be able to answer before starting a nonprofit
  • How to officially register your company as a nonprofit – from choosing a name to filing for tax-exemption
  • Why you should still conduct an independent audit, even if you’re not required to
  • The money-making activities that might put you at risk of losing your tax-exempt status
  • How to expand your reach and multiply your impact without having to spend more money
  • Creative fundraising ideas that don't require an army of volunteers
  • Why you shouldn’t be seeking out rich people for donations, and who you should target instead
  • 5 charitable alternatives to starting a nonprofit that are just as impactful – and a lot less stressful
  • Foolproof templates for every aspect of your nonprofit operation – from fundraising letters to grant proposals

And much more.

While running a nonprofit will definitely take more of your time, it won’t feel like a burden.

The satisfaction from knowing that you’re working towards something good for the world will outweigh any hardship you’ll encounter.

When you’re doing your life’s purpose, the rewards are immeasurable.

Dig Into Small Space Gardening for Beginners

by Morgan Becker

If you are frustrated with the difficulties of starting a successful home garden, in the small spaces you have available, then keep reading!

Now I know for many, gardening can be a little intimidating.  How many times do you hear sad stories of people putting in a whole season's worth of work only to get a few disappointing patches of growth?

Our lives are insanely busy these days. So when you invest your precious free time and end up with nothing to show for it, it can get very disheartening.

In the end, we often find the errors responsible for ruining our harvest often fall to more minor decisions we missed or weren't aware of along the way.  'Nothing' choices that seem simple and easy to manage in the moment but will have a lasting effect throughout the whole season.

Yes, for some, gardening comes as a natural talent. For others, some research and self-education may go into the mix. But with a few practiced steps, it can become an easily repeatable process, and with that, anyone can create a fine small space garden.

Back yard… patio… deck… living room… kitchen…

Small space gardening is a constant exercise in creative design.  Finding ways to fill in bare spots both inside and outside our homes with growth and color.  But selecting various plants you can enjoy is as easy as shopping for clothes.

Getting them to a point where they will flourish year after year… that is where we can run into trouble.  Many times over, people will buy beautiful flowers at the local nursery only to see them wilt away as they attempt to care for them.

Not for any lack of interest or effort, but simply because they took steps that weren't optimal for the plants' needs.

In this book, you will discover:

  • How to properly assess the spaces available to work with for optimal growth.
  • Elements you may not have considered when designing your layout.
  • Steps to make sure the time and effort you invest in your garden does not go to waste.
  • Critical choices when selecting plants for your home and garden.
  • How to create the best foundations for your plants to grow in.
  • Help spark creative methods for taking advantage of every bit of space both inside and outside your home.
  • Help you to manage your garden more efficiently by clarifying and simplifying foundational elements of gardening.

Gardens are a contradiction of nature. We bury seeds down in the dirt so they will grow up towards the sky.  Plants that have evolved to ward off pests coexist in gardens with other varieties that intentionally draw bugs in.

Consider the growth of plants is a fairly automatic process. Yet frequently, we must keep these plants under observation to ensure they are protected from harsh environments, appropriately watered, and that there is guaranteed adequate sunlight.

Too often, I have heard from friends and family that gardening is too complicated or takes up too much of my time and effort.

And each time, I can't help but point out it is not difficult.  It does not need to take a great deal of time and effort if you don't want it to.  What it does take is the right effort.

Even if you can only spare 30 minutes a week, I know anyone can start a small, successful growing space.  No design is too small to enjoy.

Start with a couple of pots or a wide planter on your windowsill.  Become comfortable with the basics.  After that, I'd be willing to bet you'll be thinking about your whole backyard for next season.  Everyone is capable of becoming a successful home gardener.

Being Authentic: A Memoir

by Morhaf Al Achkar

Our existence is fragile. I learned that in many intricate ways, so I do not take today for granted. I do not know what tomorrow will bring. I do not even know if tomorrow will come.

On the eve of Thanksgiving 2016, I received the diagnosis of stage 4 lung cancer. Next to dying, I fear the spread of cancer to my brain and losing my ability to think, speak, or write. This loss would be devastating to me.

The fragility of our life made me want to be authentic. Therefore, I am writing this memoir to be authentic—we become our true selves when we author who we are.

I am afraid of being forgotten. Death does frighten me. But more than dying, I am scared of having no one remember me or, even worse, of being recognized differently from who I was. At the same time, I have never thought that I was entitled to ask others not to forget me. But, not to be forgotten is precisely what I yearn for.

While I am writing for the other, I am simultaneously writing for myself. I am one of the readers and will test the subject as it gets written. My criteria are stricter. I want to say, “This is my narrative.”

I need to be able to say, “This is my narrative.”

Equity InSight

Did you feel truly prepared for the real world after you graduated? If you want to know how to make sure your students are being prepared for the real world, then keep reading...

A report produced in 2018 for CASEL showed that 52% of recent graduates believed they were not prepared for success after high school. It is not a secret that the education system is full of flaws, and students are not being taught the Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) skills they need for everyday life.

On top of that, schools don't know how to handle diversity. We talk about being inclusive, but the curriculum is structured as a standard for every student, but every student has different skills, interests, struggles, needs, cultural backgrounds, and lifestyles. This is causing many students to perform poorly because they are forced to follow the standard. Universal Design for Learning (UDL) focuses on creating equity in school by making education adaptable and flexible. That way, every single student can perform at their best and learn what matters.

Education desperately needs to change. That's why this book is going to inspire you and guide you to start changing the lives of your students little by little. In Equity Insight, you will find:

  • How to make UDL easy to implement
  • What makes a great teacher
  • How to start making a change even when you have no support
  • Why having SEL skills is more important than a college degree
  • How to identify what your students really need
  • Why SEL and UDL are the keys to a better future
  • The best way to start SEL in your classroom with a $0 budget

Every student needs to feel supported and valued. What are you waiting for to start making a change in your student's life? Students have never been more in need of Social-Emotional skills than in this time of uncertainty, anxiety, and depression.

Classroom Management for Elementary Teachers

by Freya Fan

Say goodbye to worrying about low engagement and ineffective learning: this guide has everything you need to level up your classroom management.

Do you ever feel like you’re not quite the teacher you dreamed you could be?

Maybe you’ve experienced minimal engagement from your students during class, or you’ve been overwhelmed by low assessment scores.

Perhaps you’ve experienced the awful sinking feeling of being unable to resolve a class conflict.

Being a teacher, especially for the first time, can be a challenge. There’s nothing easy about managing a group of young children who are all learning how to navigate their emotions and learn new things each day.

Some educators, despite years of having worked in schools, still find difficulty in successfully managing their classes.

In fact, the University of Phoenix has found that a total of 77% of teachers have reported feeling stressed, and 75% have reported feeling anxious.

There are some that might just resort to thinking that “kids will always be kids,” and opt to leave their classroom as it is for the sake of a quiet life.

But what if you learned that it’s possible to manage your classroom, ensure consistent learning, and create a positive environment?

In Classroom Management for Elementary Teachers, here’s a fraction of what you will discover:

  • The preparations you can make from Day 1 -- to the practices you can implement until the end of the year-- to make learning fun
  • What personality traits can help a teacher create a positive classroom environment (and how you can find yours)
  • How you can link learning material to real life lessons, and give students the motivation to keep learning
  • Why communication matters inside a classroom setting (and how you can inspire your students to be more responsible about it)

The Homesteading Encyclopedia

by Kelly Reed

Discover how to start your homesteading journey the right away... and avoid making expensive beginner’s mistakes.

Are you thinking about moving to a country homestead, but have no idea how to start planning?

Do you want to raise your level of self-sufficiency, but live in a small city apartment and don’t know how to do it?

Just imagine what it would be like if you didn’t have to rely on municipal power or water grids (or pay those expensive bills every month).

Not to mention the joy and health benefits of growing your own organic food, instead of being forced to buy supermarket food infused with dangerous chemicals and pesticides.

Does this sound like a lot of work?

You’re right. It is.

Planning your homestead journey can take weeks, or even months if you’re a complete beginner.

You would have to read numerous books, research the farthest corners of the Internet, and spend thousands of dollars on consultations.

And even after all that planning, there are no guarantees that you wouldn’t miss something crucial... something that would make a huge dent in your budget and make you regret starting this blasted thing in the first place.

That’s how it goes for most first-time homesteaders -- they make mistakes, lose money, learn from the experience, and spend more money to make it right.

If you don’t want to be one of them, you’ve come to the right place.

You don’t have to plan everything yourself. Actually, you don’t have to plan anything yourself.

We’ve done it for you.

In The Homesteading Encyclopedia, you will discover:

  • A diverse range of different ways to live your homesteading dream, even if you can’t afford moving to the country
  • The best US states to live in when homesteading or going off-the-grid
  • A complete guide to utility options for homesteaders, including renewable energy and water sources
  • Exactly how you can avoid making expensive beginner’s mistakes when planning your homesteading paradise
  • Different ways to become completely food independent -- even if you don’t own a lot of garden space
  • How to deal with medical emergencies when you live in an isolated area
  • Types of homestead properties (and how to choose the right one for yourself)
  • How to become a homesteader on a small budget

And much more.

No matter your motivation, financial situation, or living arrangements, homesteading is a great option for anyone who wants to gain any level of independence -- whether that’s a small taste or complete control of your lifestyle.

Even if you live in a city apartment, this book will spark your imagination, and show you how to make the most of what you have to become thoroughly self-sufficient.
