After being unpopular at her old school, Mackenzie gets a new chance at life after moving to a new town. On her first day of school she doesn’t fit in as the new girl and finds an unlikely friend in Kira, a Russian girl from the library who instantly befriends her. Mackenzie and Kira quickly become best friends.

During the holidays Kira takes a vacation to Russia, and in her absence Mackenzie does her best to attract the affections of Ramon, her crush and the local bad boy. But after Kira returns, the two girls are sucked into a mystery involving several acts of vandalism. It is clear the criminal is among her friends.
