Sergei and Hans

Sergei and Hans

by Dennis Santaniello

Set in 1914 on the Eastern Front, "Sergei and Hans" is about two men who try to salvage goodness and meaning through the horrors of war.

Sergei, the Russian prisoner, writes a journal about his hellish experience of war and loss. Hans, the German guard, discovers the journal, reads it, and knows that he has met this man somewhere before.

The two eventually meet again on Christmas Eve in the prison where they share a meal, recount the events which got them there, and render a deal of what will happen the next morning. A deal that will change them forever.
