After years of hard work, Kendra Falstaff’s dream of attending law school is on the cusp of becoming reality. But when her troubled teenaged brother Jimmy gets arrested, she has to use her savings to help him.

After learning of the hardship he’s inadvertently put on Kendra, arresting officer Max Nolan’s guilt has him offering to help with Jimmy’s legal bills. Kendra turns down the offer, but the persistent and charming Max convinces her to at least let him take her on a date. Kendra’s walls begin to crumble and she finally accepts Max’s offer of help with the caveat that she pay back every dime.

For a while, all is well for the pair. They have much more in common than Kendra first thought and her dreams come alive again. But when Kendra’s abusive ex-boyfriend Coop returns after a year away—having been chased out of town by a baseball bat wielding Jimmy—he’s got revenge on his mind.
