In the polluted, crime-filled streets of New York, Dan is left for dead after a disastrous encounter with another gang. But the mysterious Alpha Corporation intervenes and drags him from the brink of death. They give him a choice: serve or die.

Transported to the other side of the world, Dan is introduced to a new bizarre landscape of stats, armor and weapons in a world of warring shards. The corporation assigns him his first real mission: crush a rebellion in the city of Amethyst.

Dan quickly discovers his new powers as a shard agent, a mass-produced super-soldier of the Alpha Corp.
